My dads full name was Paul Walter
Bradbury and he was born 5th January
1946.
He joined the Navy about 1961.
After initial training he was drafted to HMS Hermes, flight deck machinery.
After which he was drafted HMS Eagle where he was a watchkeeper on main
machinery and then as a damage control and firefighting watchkeeper. Dad
was then shore based with fleet maintenance and worked on hull maintenance
and preservation. Then drafted to HMS Blake where again he was engine room
watchkeeper and working on auxiliary systems and ventilation systems. In
1970 drafted to HMS Excellent, shore base, watchkeeping coal fired domestic
boilers After 2 years underwent further training the harbour training
ship at HMS Sultan.
After passing Acting LMEM he was drafted to HMS Danae where he was
watchkeeper on the main propulsion plant then underwent further training at
HMS Sultan..
In 1975 he became an evaporator and turbo alternator watchkeeper on HMS
Intrepid. During next 6 years he gained experience on main and auxiliary
machinery and successfully passed Petty Officer. He was loaned to HMS
Fearless to gain further experience before returning to Intrepid as
watchkeeper on the boilers. Dads last full job in the service was back on
HMS Fearless on boilers before becoming the PO in charge of diesel
maintenance. He was also supervisor of junior rates messdeck.
Apart from the Navy, Dad married my mum in 1968 and had two children.
Myself, Karen, I was born in 1969 and my brother Mark, born 1972.
Dad died in December 1990 from bowel cancer.
He is missed very much by us all.

My Name is Tony (Jim) Greenwood, and I
met Paul Bradbury just after he joined Hms Hermes. At that time I was in a band
called the "Dynamic Trundlers." We were purely an instrumental band, but later
took on Paul as the singer and we became known as Paul& the DT's. We both left
HMS Hermes for HMS Eagle where the band became known as the "DEE-TEES." Paul was
a great friend as well as a great singer. Once we asked him if he played
harmonica. He didn't, but some weeks later he had learnt. I used to sing (?) a
couple of numbers with the band. Who played the drums in my place? Paul. He will
be missed by all who knew him. There's no doubt about that.
